Where: Bristol Pound offices, Corn Exchange, Corn St, Bristol, BS1 1JQ
Hours: Two days a week, for three-months preferred
Expenses: Lunch (up to £5)

Organisation overview

The Bristol Pound is digital and paper money made for the people of Bristol, by the people of Bristol. It can be spent in hundreds of amazing independent business across the city, with £B1 equal to £1 Sterling. It can be spent in shops and restaurants for goods and services, but also on local taxes, energy bills, bus and train fares.

Because it can only be spent inside the city, it keeps money circulating in our local economy, benefitting the people who live here, not big corporations and banks. It’s a radical idea that we can take back control of our local economy, creating one that’s fairer, greener and stronger.

Role profile

We are looking for a volunteer to join us for three months and gain valuable experience working for a well-known non-profit, community interest company. The ideal candidate will want to gain experience in marketing, communications and membership. Candidates must be self-motived and share our enthusiasm for changing money for good. Your role would be to help us in the following areas;

Newsletter Guides
Bristol Pound publish weekly ‘best of’ guides to promote our business members. The guides are anything from ‘Top 10 date nights in Bristol Pounds’, to ‘Best of Bristol Pound Bloody Marys!’ You would learn to create quality content and put it out to our members.

Photographing Businesses
Your role would help with taking photos of our amazing businesses, and collecting online images to add to our new mobile app.

Copy writing
You would learn marketing copy writing techniques, through populating business descriptions for our new mobile app - selling the business and its products in all their glory!

Discounts
Some of our businesses offer discounts for Bristol Pound users. We want to promote those that do, and encourage more businesses to give a little something back.

Member calls
Your customer relations skills will also be built. You would learn to call our members to offer basic account support and encourage them to spend more Bristol Pounds

Database management
Helping to collect data on businesses and maintain tidy records

Skills and experience
• Some experience of communications/PR/marketing – either paid or voluntary
• Great verbal communication skills and the ability to engage with people
• Great written communication skills and ability to write for web, print & social
• Excellent team working skills
• Some knowledge of the Bristol Pound and why we exist
