General Manager


The Cooking Company Limited (Folk House Café & Spike Island Café)
We are an independent ethical catering company looking for a general manager to help take us into the next phase of our business.
We are looking for a ambitious person who is keen to make their mark in this business, who has ideas and the ability to run with them and actively wants to further their career within the independent and ethical hospitality sector.
The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team and managing the daily operation of a busy catering operation and cafe outlets.
Responsibilities in brief
Staff rotas for both sites and all associated events
Manage operations and have keen understanding of margins associated with wage %
Recruit and train new staff and ensure that quality of work or service is maintained
Support the supervisors and duty managers
Liaise with both kitchens to maintain continuity of menus, currently over two cafe sites
Work with current systems to keep all admin up to date and correctly fulfilled
Be proactive, energetic and willing to go over and above call of duty on occasion
Be ambitious within this business

An understanding and active support of the organic food movement and all sustainability issues
Be personable and approachable
Management and customer service experience
Strong organisational and administrative skills
Demonstrated ability to lead
Confidence and ability to work on own initiative as required
Excellent communication (written & verbal), IT (word, excel etc) and numeracy skills
Understanding of and ability to use social media for marketing purposes (facebook, instagram & twitter)


Understanding of invoicing software (specifically Quickbooks)
Knowledge and understanding of the Bristol food scene


This is a seven day a week operation
- 40 hr week
