Sustainability Support Volunteer


At WWT we use resources creatively to maximum effect, looking for new solutions to challenges. In line with our Environmental Statement and our 5 year Sustainability Plan, we aim to continuously improve the sustainability of our work and reduce our environmental impacts through demonstrable actions across the organisation. We want to deliver key sustainability initiatives on the ground, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Sustainability Volunteer to help us do this.
During 2020/21, we will be introducing an Environmental Management System (EMS) initially at our Slimbridge site in Gloucestershire and Head Quarters (also based at Slimbridge) with the aim of achieving external certification to the Green Dragon standard during the same year. We will then look to roll this EMS out to our other sites across the UK.
We are seeking a sustainability volunteer with experience of implementing Environmental Management Systems to support the Head of Sustainability in this task.

What will you be doing?
Supporting the Head of Sustainability with EMS administration including reviewing the organisation’s aspects and legal registers, researching and developing document control systems, position statements, aspects control procedures and wider requirements of the EMS.

Who are we looking for?
This role will suit you if you have an enthusiasm for, and understanding of implementing and administrating EMS’s in charities or other organisations. You will ideally have some or all of the following:
• Knowledge of sustainability issues in both the built & natural environment particularly around EMS implementation and management, for example, Green Dragon, ISO14001 or EMAS or BS8555,
• Good knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Outlook, Word and Excel;
• Ability to research topics on the internet; and
• Ability to write clear straightforward guidance documents and position statements.

We are ideally looking for a volunteer that is able to give one day a week.
