Vegetable Box Packer


This is a part-time, permanent position (12 hours per week) based at the warehouse of The Community Farm in Chew Magna.

Hours of work are 10am-4pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Role
The main role of Vegetable Box Packer is to assist with the packing of fruit and vegetables for The Community Farm’s organic veg and fruit box delivery scheme. The job requires a knowledge of fruit and vegetables and an ability to work to the high standards of The Farm, ensuring every box is packed as well as each other.
The Vegetable Box Packer reports to the Warehouse Manager.

The Organisation
The Community Farm is a social enterprise and a community supported agriculture project dedicated to environmental sustainability and community involvement.
We grow organic vegetables and fruit on around 15 acres. We sell our produce, and that of other (primarily local) organic growers, to the local community, mostly through an organic box delivery scheme.
Our profits are used to provide learning experiences for children, adults and vulnerable people. We aim to enable people to reconnect with the land where their food comes from through community engagement projects.
We’re a close, friendly team, where volunteers and paid staff work alongside each other, in the warehouse and on our fields. We foster our values of honesty, respect for the living earth, fairness, openness and kindness, in all that we do.

Duties and responsibilities
To carry out all required picking and packing tasks relating to the vegetable box scheme on the specified days.
To pack vegetable boxes correctly, carefully and consistently, to help ensure that quality control meets The Farm’s standards.
To handle, weigh and pack fruit and vegetables according to the weekly pack list.
An ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Show initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude which will guarantee the success of the business.
Ensure activities meet with and integrate with The Community Farm’s requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.
Develop clear and open methods of communication with other staff at The Community Farm.
Be an enthusiastic and committed ambassador for The Community Farm and its key objectives of environmental sustainability and community engagement.
Undertake additional duties commensurate with the post as may reasonably be requested from time to time.

Holiday and other benefits:
Holiday allowance is 28 days annual leave a year (pro rata) rising to 32 days after 12 months continual service, and 33 days after 36 months.
The Community Farm has a sick pay policy and pension scheme.
